Cast a Dark Spell at ScareLA 2016 – Season of the Witch

Official ScareLA logo for 2016.

Cast a dark spell this summer at ScareLA this summer! Celebrating the “Season of the Witch,” the convention returns for its fourth year at the Pasadena Convention Center from Saturday/Sunday August 6-7th. Promising a fully immersive event this summer, ScareLA will feature panels, screenings, activities, mini haunts, and over 200 vendors in an expanded show floor.

Elvira: Mistress of the Dark will be the OFFICIAL host for the convention this year, and you’ll have the opportunity to do a meet-and-greet with her. You may have heard of Elvira from her many shows from Knott’s Scary Farm, which has become a staple at each year’s event.

“Halloween comes early this year at ScareLA! Join me, the queen of Halloween, at the only place you’ll find all your favorite nightmares under one roof: Zombies, monsters, creatures and ghouls galore… ScareLA feels just like home to me. Bring the whole fiendish family for a fun, fright-filled weekend August 6th and 7th at ScareLA!” – Elvira

After visiting ScareLA for the first time last year, I definitely have plans 100% to go back this year and see what is new and different. I would highly recommend this convention to anyone who has a love for Halloween, as there are two full days of things to do for all guests. You can read my recaps from ScareLA here: Day 1, Day 2.

Panels

One of the major panels announced is for Halloween Horror Nights. They will be returning to reveal some of their plans for the event this September. The HHN panel tends to be one of the most popular panels, so when August rolls around, be sure to wait in line early so you can find a spot and be one of the first ones to know what gets announced. It’s great to see John Murdy (Creative Director) and Chris Williams (Art Director) in person. You might even get a chance to meet them at ScareLA.

Another panel announced is McKamey MIMG_2377anor: From Extreme to Mainstream. McKamey Manor is infamously known for its highly extreme and controversial event. With that in mind, Russ, the co-owner of McKamey Manor, will share his secrets, show exclusive footage, and even reveal new details of his projects which “he hopes will catapult the Manor into the mainstream.”

Activities

Similar to 2015’s event, a variety of activities will be available for all guests to partake in, which include: screenings, classes, workshops, an after hours costume party, and more. One of the activities announced is the Sliders of Ghost Town : Origins screening – Exclusive at ScareLA.

Sliders of Ghost Town: Origins is a popular fan film that explores the history of Knott’s Scary Farm. This screening is exclusive to ScareLA, so be sure to not miss out on this opportunity!

In 1973 the Halloween industry would be changed forever when Knott’s Berry Farm in CA, hosted their very first Halloween Haunt event. Years later, employees of the park known as “Street Monsters” developed a new scare tactic that involved sliding great distances across concrete and asphalt in order to surprise and scare event guests. Since then, sliding has become an all year round activity and can be seen all over the globe. Hear the stories of the monsters who invented or refined this skill into what it is today and see what it takes to be a true Street Monster!

The Witching Hour: Costume Party is ScareLA’s after hours event on Saturday night (August 6th). There isn’t enough information about the party. But if similar to last year’s party, The Bloody Ballroom, which was an 18+ only event and featured live performances, there’s your information to base it off of. Tickets for the costume party are $35, but is currently 50% off, so be sure to get tickets!
